Dr. Kathleen Deasy has a PhD in Psychology from NUI in Maynooth and a BA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Irish Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy. She also holds a Professional Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Kathleen is trained to deal with various issues, including depression/loss, trauma, anxiety, anger management, and addiction. Her approach to counselling and psychotherapy is integrative, involving therapeutic models such as Person-Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Choice Theory Reality Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.
Kathleen has experience working with individuals with general learning disabilities (GLD). She has further developed emotional intelligence, communication, assertiveness, and self-esteem by training young adults with GLD in self-advocacy skills. She can offer alternative communication strategies using LAMH and Irish Sign Language for individuals who need this support in counselling.
