About me
I am a consultant psychiatrist: a medical doctor who specialises in mental health. I have practised for over twenty years in Ireland, the UK and Hungary. I am registered as a specialist with the Irish Medical Council, a member of the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland and an International Associate of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Alongside my consultant post at St John of God University Hospital in Dublin, I run my own practice, Seaward Clinic. As a psychiatrist I can make a diagnosis, prescribe and monitor medication, and check for physical causes. I do not offer psychotherapy myself: the Centre’s psychologists and psychotherapists do.
Much of my work is with adults who suspect they may have ADHD or autism, often after years of wondering, and with people living with anxiety, depression or other mental health conditions. Whatever brings you here, you can expect time, plain answers and a real say in every decision about your care.

Getting started
1. Get in touch by email, phone or WhatsApp.
2. I confirm the fee and the current waiting time, and email you the Pre-Assessment Form together with an encrypted upload link for returning it — you can also download the form at seawardclinic.com/preassessment.
3. You upload your GP’s referral letter through the same encrypted link — please do not attach it to an email — or simply send me your GP’s details.
4. We book your first appointment.
Colleagues. GPs, psychologists and therapists are welcome to refer patients for psychiatric assessment or a medication review, or to email me first to discuss whether a referral would help.

What I offer
I see adults (18 and over) for:
- ADHD: specialist assessment and ongoing care after diagnosis
- Autism: specialist diagnostic assessment only
- General adult psychiatry: anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar affective disorder and other mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and trauma-related disorders
- Medication review and optimisation: for those already taking psychiatric medication
- Neuromodulation: tDCS for depression, delivered at home under my supervision
- Medico-legal work: independent assessments and expert reports for solicitors, courts, tribunals and employers
How I work
Before your first appointment. Every new patient completes the Pre-Assessment Form (see Getting started, above). It helps me understand your story, so that our time together is spent on what matters most to you rather than on filling in forms. Write as much or as little as you like: short notes are fine, there are no right or wrong answers, and anything you leave blank can simply be discussed at the appointment.
Because the form contains sensitive personal information, please do not send it back by email or WhatsApp: hand it in when we meet, or upload it through the encrypted link I send you*.
*Files you send through the upload link are encrypted on your own device before they leave it, and only I can open them — not even Tresorit, the Swiss company that runs the service, can read them. They are stored within the EU; Tresorit is GDPR compliant and ISO 27001 certified, like my email service. No account or app is needed.
Assessments. Thorough and unhurried, they include a structured clinical interview and, where relevant, validated rating scales. For ADHD and autism, I also ask, wherever possible, for an account from a family member or someone who knows you well (collateral history) — usually a short questionnaire they can complete at home, always with your agreement. The process takes place in two one-hour stages: a general adult psychiatric assessment first, because other conditions can look like ADHD or autism, or occur alongside them, then the specific ADHD or autism assessment.
Findings and next steps. I explain the findings clearly, take time to answer your questions and discuss the next steps, whether or not a diagnosis is made. Each assessment ends with a full written report, which you will receive within two weeks; it can support requests for reasonable accommodations at work or in education. My approach is neuroaffirmative and evidence-based: I understand ADHD and autism as differences that bring strengths as well as difficulties. All treatment options are discussed with you before anything is prescribed or started, including their risks and benefits, so that you can make an informed choice.
Medication. I prescribe medication when it is needed and review it carefully, including planned reduction where it is no longer helping. I work with your GP and, where appropriate, with any therapist you are seeing. Depending on your needs and preferences, psychiatric care can be complemented by psychotherapy or — after an ADHD diagnosis — by ADHD coaching, both available here at the Centre.
Neuromodulation. I am also certified in two non-invasive neuromodulation treatments, tDCS and rTMS, and a member of the Academy of Brain Stimulation. At present I offer transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), used at home under my supervision. Its main use is in depression, including where medication alone has not helped enough. A very weak, painless current, applied through small pads on the head, gently increases the activity of the brain areas that regulate mood.
Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), which uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain, will be added in the future. If you would like to find out whether tDCS could be an option for you, please contact me.
Medico-legal work. This work is separate from the care of my own patients. On formal written instruction, I provide independent psychiatric assessments and expert reports: psychiatric-injury and capacity assessments, ADHD and autism reports for legal, occupational or educational purposes, and court attendance where required. The work is impartial: my duty is to the court or instructing body, and it sits outside a treating doctor–patient relationship.

- ADHD or autism assessment: €1,000, in two one-hour stages of €500 each
- Stage 1: general adult psychiatric assessment

Before you book
- Have a referral letter from your GP ready and send it through the encrypted link. If you do not have one, your GP’s details are enough: full name, practice address and telephone number. I will contact them about your care.
- Complete the Pre-Assessment Form before your first appointment.
- Private health insurance, including Laya Healthcare and Vhi, may cover part of the cost: check with your insurer what is covered and what documentation you will need. You will receive a receipt for each appointment, for your claim and for the 20% tax relief on medical expenses.
- If available, bring a list of your current medication, any previous reports and, for ADHD or autism assessments, school reports or other information about your childhood.
- You are welcome to bring someone with you. If you have sensory needs, please let me know in advance: we can adjust the lighting and seating, and plan breaks.
- If you prefer to communicate in writing, or would like to send me your questions before we meet, email works well.
- A family member may make the first contact on your behalf; the assessment itself needs your own agreement.
- The Centre is a short walk from Dún Laoghaire DART station and well served by buses; parking in the town is paid, on-street or in the nearby car parks (under the Pavilion Theatre). The rooms are on two floors: if stairs are a difficulty, please tell me when you book.
- For video appointments, I send you a link by email beforehand; all you need is a quiet, private space and a phone, tablet or computer. Video appointments are never recorded; with your agreement, they are transcribed by Heidi, a medical AI scribe that helps me write my notes.
If you are unsure whether an appointment is the right step, do get in touch: I would be glad to hear from you.
